wanderlosters x mishe mokwa

In all honesty, if you were to ask me... NorCal or SoCal, I'd choose SoCal, in a heartbeat. Although I'm from San Jose and I guess I'd always have an appreciation for it, everything here is just so much better. LA itself has better weather (I HATE gloomy), so much culture, and there's always something new to explore and something different to do. I'm still so appalled at all the things I have yet to discover, even after doing my fair share of adventuring these past 6 or so months.

It just so happened that I found a group of people who share my love for LA and also are looking to explore all the different parts, crooks and crannies of it. And though this blog post is different from my traditional food/recipe posts, this and my future series of posts will contain my adventures with new food discoveries and new places to explore. I hope that you'll find these inspiring and that you'll enjoy them as much as we did!

We are the Wanderlosters, get lost with us

Mishe Mokwa -- Malibu, CA
This hike has multiple trails but we decided to make our adventure 7.1 miles round trip starting from Mishe Mokwa to Sandstone Peak and making our way back through the Backbone trail just so we could venture through a different route to and from.

As we were winding our way up to the Mishe Mokwa trailhead, I was honestly so astonished at all the rock formations and just exactly how green the hillside was. I definitely didn't feel like I was in LA anymore and more so that I was in Ireland or something out of Disney's Brave.

The views were amazing as you can see, and they were even more breathtaking in person. To be honest, I never really had an appreciation for plants/flowers but hiking with the Wanderlosters made me feel like I was on a totally different planet. The cold and crisp air, the lush plants and greenery, everything was all too perfect to not take in.

About a mile into our hike, it got progressively more and more foggy, to the point where most of the mountain tops were covered in a thick blanket of fog. It seemed so surreal and actually made it more majestic, or at least I thought so!

I have to say that the trail itself is amazing, there's definitely so many different things to see and a bunch of great photo-ops. We literally stopped every 5 minutes or so to take a bunch of pictures because everything was just so picture-worthy. You can imagine how much progress we were making haha!

Eventually, it started POURING and when I say pouring, I mean storming with rain, wind and fog. We were drenched and soaked but we still made the best of it! As we descended back down the hillside and the rain somewhat subsided, we made these two awesome discoveries: a field of beautiful orange-pink flowers in the midst of all this greenery, and the caterpillar from Disney's A Bug's Life! How cool is that!?

While we weren't able to actually complete the hike to Sandstone peak as the fog and rain prevented us from admiring any sights or scenery, it was obviously still so worth it. Definitely warrants another trip back to finish it the right way! But anyways, until next time!

Adventure on,
Theresa
