anaheim packing district

Today was the ultimate cheat day. It's Friday, we just finished our midterm and CDA Presents is taking place in Anaheim. With class finishing early, a few of my classmates and I decided to venture out to Anaheim so we could explore its hidden gem, -the Anaheim Packing District, before attending the dental convention. Ok, maybe it's not all that hidden and it's a very popular spot, but it's definitely not the first place people think to visit when they come to this city.

The Anaheim Packing District is all about the good vibes. It's filled with hip and unique eateries that you really can't get anywhere else, all conveniently located in one area. Think food court, but with an urban touch.
When I discover new spots like this, I'm really all about the experience and I appreciate it when restaurants/shops go above and beyond in developing their overall presentation and atmosphere -and this packing house doesn't seem to fail me in any perspective. Everything from the live music, architecture and design sold me from the moment I walked in.

I've got to say that the one thing I literally obsessed over was the decor. I've gotten really into the whole home improvement and interior design thing and I just couldn't get over how beautifully everything fit together. The decor mimics a cross between a summer outdoor patio with furniture to die for, and a greenhouse with lively greens and succulents thriving at every corner. I was so impressed with how every little booth in itself held it's own theme without losing the touch of the entire packing house.

Full of life and full of color

There are obviously so many great places to try and having such a big selection, definitely makes it difficult to choose from. But being that it was eleven in the morning and we were all starving for some kind of breakfast/brunch type of food, we were all instantly attracted to The Iron Skillet and their savory waffle sandwiches. Unfortunately, they didn't open for another half an hour and our eager stomachs just couldn't endure anymore, it's definitely a spot we'd have to come back for.

Must try: melt-in-your-mouth poutines from The Kroft

Instead we opted for Canada's all type famous dish, poutines from The Kroft. They had a variety of different types either topped with short ribs, rotisserie chicken, or fried chicken, all prepared in their own decadent way. Somehow we all ended up getting poutines from The Kroft and they did not disappoint. Although I try to maintain a relatively clean diet, I really can't say no to fries, especially not now, not here and definitely not today. I finished it all in one sitting, so yes, it was that good -no shame.

Customizable GelatoPops with dips and toppings

Ok and you really can't pass up dessert at a place like this, where there are sweet treats from Han's Homemade Ice Cream, Crepe Coop and PopBar all located in one building. PopBar is one of the more popular attractions, there are tons of Instagram posts and pictures of this place circulating the web so it warranted a try. They offered a range of gelato or sorbet bars from green tea, mango, peanut butter to yogurt. You can further customize your bar by having it dipped in either milk, dark, or white chocolate and topped with a variety of nuts. And for those who can't make up their mind, they also have pre-made customer favorites such as Green Tea Kit Kat, Ferraro Rocher, or the Pina Colada.

Ferraro Rocher from PopBar
(Hazelnut GelatoPop half-dipped in milk chocolate, topped with bits of waffle cones & hazelnut)

I know I've got a lot of obsessions but Ferraro Rochers are really one of my all time favorites, so I had to give it a shot. I thought the bar itself was amazing, it was bursting with flavor and its rich, creamy texture just couldn't be met elsewhere. However, the toppings did kind of throw me off. Each bite of the chocolate and nuts masked the flavor of the GelatoPop, making it kind of hard for me to taste the fusion of all the flavors and hence any inkling of a Ferraro Rocher. With that being said though, it's still definitely a treat and I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't given it a try.

All in all, the Anaheim Packing District is literally packed with fun eats that you honestly can't and shouldn't miss out on. And in honor of all the good vibes this place impeded me with: "Your body is not a temple, it's an amusement park. Enjoy the ride."

TGIF,
Theresa
